The Seedling Trust: Celebrating two years of building hope, one kilometer at a time... The Seedling Trust has just completed two exciting and tremendously successful years. In spite of the economic downturn of the last few years, there are still many generous souls willing to give money and time for a good cause. Just as from the beginning, the Seedling Trust’s mission is simple and straightforward and locally-based: to improve the lives of children in the Children’s Homes, the municipally-run institutions in Budapest that care for orphaned and disabled infants and kids. Here are the highlights from the Trust's first two years:
• They raised over EUR 50,000, all of which directly went to help the children.
• They achieved their first major goal, which was to purchase the specially-equipped bus for the children to use for excursions to the zoo, the lake, the park and other exciting places for the Seedlings. They are now fundraising for a second vehicle to offer more of the Seedlings the same opportunities.
• The Trust had a strong fundraising performance at several important road races, including the SPAR marathon and the London marathon, and
• They have established a new Christmas tradition with Villa Bagatelle to ensure the Seedlings each receive a gift from generous individuals from the community.
• Trust co-founder Andrea Snow published her book Heart Over Heels (Egy ütemre dobban a szív), a highly personal, compelling read that clearly lays out why charity marathons are one of the most effective fundraising models in the world, and how to mobilize your physical strength and skills to train and fundraise. Since its release in November 2011, Heart Over Heels has consistently been on Alexandra Books bestseller list. All proceeds from sales benefit the Seedling Trust. Andrea also marked her 13th road race in two years with her third ING New York Marathon, setting her best time yet, and she will serve as Torch Runner in the 2012 Olympics in London.
• District XII has named Andrea official running ambassador for the district. She leads a training team that meets at Normafa three times weekly. The group’s partners include MOM PARK, City Hall, A-Z International Kindergarten, Hubay Haz - Christmas Museum, Yes Travel, Wrigley, Oxygen Wellness Personal trainer Attila Pálos and the Thomas Mann German School.
In addition to providing direct help to children in Budapest’s state institutions, the Trust has also made great strides in expanding our mission to a much wider community and advocating for the charity marathon model in Hungary:
• They launched the Team Heart initiative to give local runners a user-friendly way of converting their kilometers into direct support for their favorite causes.
• Last but not least, they have taken the first steps towards replicating their highly-successful model in another community: Kigali, Rwanda, with the donations going directly to support the educations of children living at the Gazimba orphanage.
It’s been an inspiring and exciting two years, and they look forward to more successes in 2012.
| Help for the Cool Milk at School Foundation Not many people realise that there are 100,000 children in Hungary who suffer from malnutrition, and more than 20,000 face starvation. Most of these children only get the main sources of nutrition within the nursery and primary school catering scheme, and for some that is the only chance for a hot meal, which is a real and serious social issue.
The Cool Tej az Iskoláknak Alapítvány (Cool Milk at School Foundation) has been working to supply these children with essential nutrition such as milk for the past 5 years. The Foundation helped 26,500 children to receive milk on a daily basis within the school milk programme, making them one of the most important market players, but this is still only the tip of the iceberg, and there are tens of thousands of Hungarian children they would like to help and provide with milk and delivering its nutritional benefits.
Now you can help the Foundation supply as many children as possible with fresh Hungarian milk on a daily basis in a country where nearly every 5th children is starving.
How can you help?
1. More and more companies make donations, thus reducing their before- tax income and enhancing their social responsibility schemes. Your donation can help children grow up to be healthy adults. 2. By supporting this initiative, you can also up your PR profile and social responsibility activities helping a credible Foundation that does practical and real work for Hungarian children.
You are welcome to attend the Foundation's events such as their World School Milk Day (about which you can find more information on their website, and look up its media coverage on the Internet), or to visit some of the schools they work with.
For more information about how your company can help and make a real difference in social responsibility, and about the kind of benefits this scheme can provide you with, please call +36 30 500-6910 or write an email to this address.
| BCCH fundraising for the red sludge disaster victims / BCCH adománygyűjtés a vörösiszap-katasztrófa károsultjainak
The British Chamber of Commerce in Hungary has decided to take action in an effort to help the 7,000 people directly affected by the disaster on 4 October 2010, when a chemical waste reservoir burst at the Ajkai Timföldgyár plant, releasing a flood of red sludge on the settlements nearby. To leave matters in able hands, we wish to direct your donations to the Hungarian Interchurch Aid, who (among others of course) have been providing emergency assistance to the victims of this ecological disaster. They are now seeking funds for the second phase of their programme, which would provide long term assistance to those affected, with the main focus on reconstruction and rehabilitation.
To support their work either as a company or an individual, please send your donation to the following bank accounts:
