Pancake Night

Date and time: 18:00 09 February, 2010
Venue: Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal

The British Chamber of Commerce in Hungary

held its

Pancake Night,
an early celebration of Shrove Tuesday and Pancake Day

on Tuesday, 9 February 2010 at the Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal.

Shrove Tuesday is the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the first day of the Christian season of fasting and prayer called Lent. In the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, it is often known as Pancake Day, the reason for which is that making pancakes use up ingredients such as sugar, fat and eggs, whose consumption was traditionally restricted during the fasting associated with Lent.

The date of Shrove Tuesday / Pancake Day can vary from as early as 3 February to as late as 9 March, since as the last day before the start of Lent, it is dependent on the date of Easter, which is based on the cycles of the moon. This year, it falls on 16 February, but we have decided to celebrate it a week early and invited members and partners to a feast of pancakes, where over a 100 guests joined us.

Food and drinks were courtesy of the Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal.
